8:00 PM - 10:00 PM	Blue Ridge Dark Skies - August 15 Discover the Night. Protect the Dark.Step into a whole new world after sunset with the Greene Dark Skies program. This engaging evening experience invites participants of all ages to explore what comes alive at night—through stargazing, observing nocturnal wildlife, and discovering insects and other creatures that thrive in the dark.The program also highlights light pollution and how artificial light at night impacts our view of the stars and disrupts ecosystems. In partnership with Blue Ridge Dark Skies, participants will learn simple, practical ways to reduce light pollution and help protect both wildlife and our night skies.

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM	Mother/ Daughter Mermaid Party - Summer 2026 Dive into an ocean of fun as participants transform into mermaids for an unforgettable under-the-sea adventure! Enjoy themed crafts, games, and activities inspired by the sea, plus plenty of chances to sparkle and shine. From decorating ocean treasures to playing fun group games, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.Come dressed in your favorite mermaid or beach-themed attire and get ready for a fin-tastic time filled with imagination, creativity, and fun! Perfect for young ocean lovers looking to make waves and lasting memories.

9:00 AM - 12:00 PM	Youth Flag Football - Flag Football Join this fun and competitive-friendly league for youth in grades 1-5. GCPR will offer two age divisions: Instructional and Pee-Wee. Schedule will include one weeknight practice and Saturday morning games. Games and practice will be held at the RES Athletic Complex. Weekday practices begin the week of August 4 and games will begin Saturday, August 23. The deadline to register is July 7.
