Native American Floral Beadwork Class • Register • View Cart •

Sarah Baker is an enrolled member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Okmulgee, Oklahoma as well as Euchee Indian. Sarah has 31 years of experience in a wide variety of Indigenous art-forms including Native American beadwork and Native American moccasin construction. Sarah teaches not only Indigenous people who have a strong interest in their culture but also those who are from different backgrounds and have a great respect for Native American culture. She observes, “Beadwork tells stories of who we are as individuals and the communities we come from.” You’ll learn about this approach to indigenous and modern beadwork techniques in Sarah’s classes. “Our ancestors used beading to connect to each other spiritually and provide a way to tell our stories in a meaningful way through the creation of elaborately embellished objects. Everything we create has a story and meaning and every community has its own beading traditions, styles, and history.” In this 1.5-hour class, each student will learn both the applique-style and lazy-stitch style beadwork technique that will enable the student to complete beautiful floral beadwork. Each student will be provided with all materials needed to complete the beadwork. Materials provided to each student will be available to keep and take home. These include thread, needles, wax, stabilizer to sew on, beading graph paper, 8 containers filled with different seed bead colors and a beadwork mat.
